What do actors do to warm up?

I’m always so curious about what other actors do for their voices and bodies before filming, before a play or before a rehearsal.

I’m of the mind that the body needs to be prepped as an instrument so that in the playing of it, one can access all emotions, all nuances of voice, and find presence. Setting them up so that they won’t hurt themselves physically, or vocally.

I’ve heard a lot of times, some actors don’t know how to warm up. Which is so wild to me, because I feel like it’s such an integral part of acting.

We warm up so we have the fullest capacity of our faculties. We have presence, in our full body, in even our pinky finger. And it’s for that that I’ve created a 7 Day Chakra Warm Up Challenge, completely free and now on demand!

We did this as a live workshop series, and now I’m making available the playbacks.

It includes:

  • Simple Breathwork

  • An actor physical warm up - with yogic stretching

  • An actor vocal warm up

  • Focus on each Chakra

At the end of this week, doing it every day, I felt genuinely incredible. I felt so much presence in my body, and a connection to my voice that felt like I could sing anything at any moment. (and I did a couple times haha)

I hope it ends up being the same for you. Let me know how it goes if you decide to do this challenge. What else do you usually do to warm up?

If you’d like to take this off of the youtube Playlist and into an ad free space with a private group, head to the Mindful Actor Network Group for the Challenge.
